Tin Tile Screen

I first showed my sitting room fireplace last summer in its dormant phase. Sitting idle, there was not much excitement to it.

I've never liked the look of it, and always knew I would make an insert that appealed to me more and served a better function as a focal point in the room.

I began the process last fall, and had a plywood panel cut to fit. I played with the idea of doing a decoupage of nature themes. But I knew unless it was plain to serve as a backdrop, that I would eventually get tired of it.

I had a lush kind of harvest theme going for a few weeks before the cold weather set in.

And of course I never like it better than when it's in use.

But after the warmer weather arrived, I covered the inset with a picture I've had for many years, and displayed nature themed books that I could change out when I wanted to. This was its most recent incarnation.

When I came across this tin tile I knew I had the look I wanted. The white unifies the hearth and mantel and gives a cleaner, cooler appearance for the warmer seasons. The rusty finish gives the insert a bit more interest and makes for a great backdrop for staging anything I may want to add now and then.
