BP AGREED TO PAY A RECORD FINE FOR 2010 GULF OF MEXICO OIL SPILL


BP has agreed to pay a record environmental fine of $18.7bn to settle legal actions brought by the US and several states over the fatal 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

This fine settles all federal and state claims against BP, surround the gulf oil spill disaster and everything related to it. But is this just the beginning of a nightmare, or the end of one? Is the environment cleaned up and back to normal? Can people move on with their lives now, or is this just the beginning of a long road of suffering and environmental disaster?

EPISODE BREAKDOWN: On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin features a special episode dedicated to the continuing impacts of the 2010 BP oil spill, starting with the news that the oil company was found grossly negligent this week and may have to pay quadruple the amount of money in penalties to the government.

BTS producer, Cody Snell, then goes down to the Gulf to investigate the case of Jorey Danos, a BP oil spill cleanup worker who has been sick for the last five years due to his exposure to a toxic chemical oil dispersant known as Corexit. 

Abby then speaks with Wilma Subra, an award winning toxicologist, about the science behind the dispersant and why the EPA approved spraying nearly 2 million gallons of the substance on the water. Abby then goes over the impact on the Gulf ecosystem and wildlife, highlighting the millions of fish, birds, and mammals that have died as a result of the spill. 

BTS wraps up the show with an interview with Clint Guidry, President of the Louisiana Shrimpers Association about the impact of the spill on the seafood industry and the continuing battle to receive claims from the company.

The same thing that happened around Fukushima, as far as covering up the negative health and environmental impact, happened surrounding the mega BP Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Independent physicians and scientists were put on notice that establishing any illness correlating with "the spill", would be "bad for (their) business".

GOM March 24, 2015  "Many people were swimming in the Gulf as the animals lay dead or dying on beaches. I witnessed this. People drinking, Jimmy Fucking Buffet gave a concert..No one cares about the sea or it's beautiful creatures. In turn, I know longer care for humans. Well, there are some like-minded souls..on this site. But none that I actually meet. Anyway, I've seen the lesions, rashes, sores. The 'bridge' homeless vets stopped venturing into the water for fish due to getting extremely sick with full body rashes. ER wouldn't treat them so I bought Benedryl. They were in agony. I'm sure they died. One day they were just gone..

I remember a popular website back then dedicated to everything related to the disaster. One night, after a long study of petroleum/Corexit, and Synthia. I posted that if any pregnant women had been in the Gulf waters, it would be wise to end the pregnancy, wait a couple years..detox your system. Common sense advice. Well, I was called a Eugenist, a Devil, an Atheist, then the death threats started.

Some time later the stories started. Many miscarriages, horribly deformed babies, still births..

My point is, you can't warn them or feel sorry. Most people have no common sense. These skin lesions are a sign of toxic overload, as bowling stated. There is no hope for the chronically stupid.."

THE NATION: Investigation: Two Years After the BP Spill, A Hidden Health Crisis Festers
Gulf residents and cleanup workers continue to suffer serious health problems from the 2010 disaster, but the oil giant is not being held to account. As information about the settlement negotiations comes to light, several critical issues are not being adequately addressed—including the human health crisis brought on by the disaster.

Many people whose health was adversely affected by the spill would be excluded. The Medical Benefits Settlement covers about 90,000 people who are qualifying cleanup workers (out of an estimated 140,000) and 110,000 coastal residents living within one-half to one mile of the coast (out of a coastal population of 21 million). Although it would cover “certain respiratory, gastrointestinal, eye, skin and neurophysiological” conditions, it excludes mental health and a host of physical ailments, including cancers, birth defects, developmental disorders and neurological disorders including dementia.

UAB scientists found that the dispersant can seriously damage epithelial cells, such as those in the lungs of humans or the gills of marine animals. “The evidence that Corexit causes structural and functional abnormalities in airway tissue includes dispersant-induced cell detachment, edema, contraction in cell diameter and increased permeability,” Prof. Veena Antony, M.D., the paper’s senior author, said in a UAB news release.
During the later stages of the blowout, BP went to work spreading millions of dollars around, buying off college and university scientists to study the the effects, conditionally that they could only publish their findings with BP's approval. The real effects of the environment and people were, still are covered up, even today. The true facts about the biological conditions of that affected region are sickening as are the people.

A superb book written by Deborah Dupré chronicles the real, on the ground history of the biological damage inflicted on a human population that continues to poison the people and the environment, today and forever. Hydrocarbons like ionizing radiation are DNA and gene corrupters. 

Dupré dedicates about 25 pages of approximately 70 non-consensual human experiments conducted on US citizens, by or authorized by the US government. They are heinous; and, there are many utilizing radioactive isotopes.

DON'T BLOW OFF BEING PREPARED WITH EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

The rumors started of a blowout. Having a child with asthma, I needed to seal the windows. I had nothing. I was not ready. The air. Only 1 purifier. So off I go for plastic, duct tape, air puifiers, water, food..Looking back, this is insanity. Lucky I am always loaded with vitamins and supplements which we ate like candy.

The air turned acrid quickly. The whole Gulf was filling with fumes from burning petro. Then came the Corexit and Flame retardants (sprayed to keep Gulf from catching fire). Although my place was 'sealed', I still faintly smelled it. Within a month I was forced to move inland a few miles. The fumes remained. The rains brought the Corexit. It smells like heavy pesticide fog.

An ER Nurse friend said they were seeing real sick people. Big respiratory issues. Major skin burns/rashes.Yes, people were going into the GOM to fcking swim. And using their boats so they got splashed. And they fished. Yep. Florida said it was safe. No common sense.

People had sore throats. Flu like stuff. They and their kids are real sick today. Lots of miscarriage. Sick/dead babies. Southern folk talk to each other so I always hear something.
